World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Lossiemouth, Scotland, he served as a Sergeant in the 1/6th Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders. In an attack on July 31, 1917, at Ypres, Belgium, when Sergeant Edwards, located a German machine gun position, he led some men against it, killed all the team and captured the gun. Later, he was wounded in the arm but went on to stalk and kill a sniper, and led his Company on to capture the final objective. For most conspicuous bravery, he was decorated with the Victoria Cross by King George V at Buckingham Palace on September 26, 1917. He was later killed and missing in action at Arras, France, on March 24, 1918.
