Brigadier General, Confederate States Army. He was educated at South Carolina College and received a diploma in medicine. Bratton enlisted a private in the 6th South Carolina Volunteers. He served in Charleston and Seven Pines, where he was wounded and captured. Bratton was promoted to Brigadier General on May 6, 1864 after the death of General Micah Jenkins. He surrender the largest brigade at Appomattox. After the war, he was elected to the South Carolina State Senate 1865-1866 and a member of Congress in 1884-1885.
