Daughter of famous pioneer preacher, Rev. Peter Cartwright and his wife, Frances Gaines. Wife of Peyton Harrison, with whom she eloped, November 13, 1827, after running away to St. Louis to get married.
When her father came home from being away, he was very angry. Rev. Cartwright said, "While I was away a sly fox crept in and stole my chicken!" It's said Rev. Peter was furious his daughter had run off with Harrison. Later he found Peyton to be a good husband and son-in-law, and when their first child was born father and daughter were reconciled.
