Linda was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother. She was born 2-22-1945 to John and Annie Imhof in Bellingham, Wash. She attended Ferndale Schools.
She met her husband Walter J. Britschgi at a Schwingfest in Northern California where Walter was wrestling. They were married on September 25, 1971 and Linda moved to Holtville. Holtville was not at all like her Evergreen, Washington home. As this was to be her permanent home, she learned to love her new surroundings. Linda and Walter raised 3 children while Walter farmed in rural Holtville. She was very free giving of her time and energy. Giving of her talents to all in need, Linda started donating her time in 1974 helping out in a 7th grade art class with Jack Kelly.
In 1976 she was appointed to Holtville's planning commission and served for 5 years. The late Charlotte Grizzle asked her to serve on Wesley Day Care Board in 1975 and she remained on the board for 13 years; she rounded up snacks for the kids, helped install a new floor in the common hall, and even played the friendly witch for the kids enjoyment on Halloween.
Linda was appointed head of the City's Diamond Jubilee in 1979, was a 4-H leader in Cooking for many years, while helping on many projects both fund raising and social activities. She was appointed to Holtville's City Council and successfully ran, and completed 2 more terms; serving as Mayor 2 of those 12 years.
During her time on the council, Holtville built a new water plant and repaired all the city streets. Linda is a life member of Beta Sigma Phi; a past member of Holtville Soroptimist Club, a member of Holtville Woman's Club and Desert Quilter Guild, an honorary member of the Imperial Valley Swiss Club, and a member of the Holtville St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Her latest passion is making quilts. She has shared her talents with anyone who asked. She has given talks to school children around the valley from first grade to I.V.C. showing children that quilts are an extended math project. A lot of her quilts were geared towards children. She will be long remembered for her love of cooking, and baking. She has been a long standing cook when needed at the I.V. Swiss Club and in her club work. She was St. Joseph's chairman for funeral lunches for the last 15 years. She was very much dedicated to her community and family. Linda was known as Nana to her 6 grandchildren, spoiling them and then sending them home.
She is survived by her husband, Walter; children, Jennifer (Billy) Silva of Modesto, John (Stacy) of Holtville, Jared of Bakersfield, and 6 grandchildren who were all the love of her life.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 27, 2012 from 6 to 9 p.m. with rosary being said at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Holtville. Service will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Holtville and will be officiated by Father, Eddie Ruiz. Burial will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro.
