Viola Barker, 77, died at 1:10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin after an illness of one month.
She was born
April 29, 1927, in Batesville, Ark., to Alva F. Pruden and Iva Bell (Nettleton) Pruden. She moved to Neosho area at age 11 with her family. she graduated from Granby High School in 1945. She worked as a dental assistant at Camp Crowder, a telephone operator for Bell Telephone for 10 years and in later years she was a cafeteria manager for the Benton Elementary School. She was also a homemaker, wife and mother. Her church membership was with the Rocketdyne Road Church of Christ.
She married Charles Barker, Dec. 9, 1955, in Neosho and he survives.
Additional survivors include two children, Bryan Glen Barker, Conway Springs, Kan., and Brenda Houk, Neosho, one sister, Naomi Wolgamott, Neosho, six grandchildren, Amanda Barker, Nicholas Barker, Brigette Barker, Natalie Leeper, Jonni Leeper and Brett Leeper, and one great-grandchild, Kaitlyn Barker.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Alta Purden and Ruth Haywood, two brother, Elmer and Charles Pruden and twin grandsons, Daniel and Craig Barker.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Rockedyne Road Church of Christ, Neosho, with Denny Kruse officiating. Cremains will be privately interred in Hazelgreen Cemetery.
