Marshall Wilborn Maynor, son of William H. and Elizabeth Cox Maynor, moved with his family as a small child from Georgia to Russell County, Alabama. He then moved on to Smith County, Mississippi, where he married Susannah Jane Swittenberg on 17 November 1859. Marshall served in the Civil War (MS 46th Infantry, Company G) and was captured in Vicksburg on 4 July 1863. After the war he returned to farming in Smith County and later moved on to Hinds County. Marshall and Susannah had ten children: William Jefferson Maynor, John M. Maynor, Anna Belle Maynor (Andersen), Mary Elizabeth Maynor (Hitch), Henry Marshall Maynor, Charles Augustus Maynor, Robert Franklin Maynor, James G. Maynor, Relda Maynor White, and Maye Maynor (Holcomb).
