James Griffin was born on November 28, 1985 in Ridgewood, NJ. Growing up in Oakland, he attended Heights Elementary School, Valley Middle School, and Indian Hills High School, where he played football from 2000-2004, graduating with the class of 2004. Following graduation, he attended Monmouth University and William Paterson University.
On the night of September 15, 2006, while driving home from class at William Paterson, James lost control of his car in the rain, and suffered severe trauma. He was left quadriplegic, confined to a wheelchair, and unable to speak.
James fought bravely to recover for six and a half years. He would still smile whenever Green Day was played for him. He passed away at 3:15 pm on January 4th, surrounded by his family and loved ones, shortly after his family prayed the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.
He is survived by his loving parents Maryann (nee Moller) and James G. Griffin Sr., his sister Christina Griffin, and his brother David Griffin.
