He is the son of Charles Clinton and Maude (Hoyne) Buell. Grandson of Thomas and Leonora Hoyne of Chicago, IL.
Mr. Buell received his Bachelors of Science in Architecture from the University of IL in 1916 and his Masters of Science in Architecture from Columbia University in 1917. After his WWI service where he served as a 1st Lieutenant Coast Artillery in the U. S. Army, he began his career as a designer with Marshall Fox (1919-20) and with Rapp and Rapp, well known theatre architects (1920-21), before opening his own firm.
He was married to Marjorie in 1921 and became the father to 4 children. He was divorced in 1958.
Mr. Buell was a member of the Colorado Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, serving as secretary from 1925-30. He was also a member of the Chicago Architecture Club in 1920, and an honorary member in 1923 (this was probably when he moved to Colorado).
