Author, radio personality and pilot. The man known as "Bax" was considered one of a kind. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He got his first job in radio in 1945 a job that lasted for fifty years. Due to his speaking his mind, on air, he was often fired. Whenever he was fired from one radio station another station would grab him up. One time, after being fired, he said he was fired "for the same reason they hired me, I'm Gordon Baxter, and there's no cure for that." He authored thirteen books including "Vietnam, Search and Destroy." He also wrote a column in Flying magazine, for thirty years, called "Bax Seat." He was inducted into the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame in November of 2005. "Bax" was survived by nine children, eight from his first marriage and one by his widow Diane.
