Debbie lost her life along with nephew Dalton Lee Edwards on Hwy EE 8 miles northeast of Greenfield MO as they started to cross the Hulston Mill Bridge. Their auto ended up in 17 foot of water, upside down in Stockton Lake. Debbie's youngest son and his friend escaped without injury and swam to safety then summoned help from a nearby residence.

Debbie was a devoted mother that loved her three sons very much. She was always willing to help others and coordinated benefits for those in need. Because of her efforts to help, she became close friends with country music artist Mickey Gilley who was also willing to help.

She had been a secretary for the Dade County Prosecutors Office for several years.

Debbie was preceded in death by her second husband, Larry J. Moore (Oct 1999) from a brain tumor. Survivors are three sons; Dustin Crayton, Eric Crayton and Brandon Moore (which survived the accident) all from Greenfield; her parents, Cletis and Janice McConnell, Greenfield; her older brother and neice, Jackie and Brittany McConnell of Willard; a younger brother and his family, Brad and Whitney along with Mariah and Nicholas McConnell of Rogers Arkansas; a younger sister and neice, Sandy Edwards and Roxanne Cope. Sandy's son, Dalton Lee Edwards (age 6) also lost his life in the same accident.
