He was the son of Howard Franklin Keefer and Dora Van Houter Keefer. He married Violetta Pearl Hiney on January 1st 1927 in San Diego California. Donald and Pearl were members of the I Am church in San Diego. Donald was a painter and did some some custom tile work. The group moved into remote towns near Lake City and Gunnison Colorado to mine for gold and being away from the coasts while we were at war with Japan. While living in Colorado he began to see problems with the group. One of the requirements was that the children were to never marry and remain celibate. This led to doubts and eventually breaking off from the group. Donald became was a logger with a team of large draft horses. He would go up into the mountains and fall trees and load and drag ton after ton of huge trees down to the mill near their log cabin. The family moved back to New Jersey in 1942 as the war was ending they passed through Chicago. He and his daughter Joyce both became re-dedicated Christians in 1966. He opened a custom tile shop in Succasunna New Jersey and ran that until he retired. He and Pearl then moved back into the his beloved Pennsylvania mountains, this time in South Montrose Pa. He was a devout Christian and often arose to watch the sun rise. He was a great talker and an even better story teller. He was greatly loved and sadly missed. He was the father of Donald B, LoRaine Joyce Joyce, Shirley and Gary. My Grand dad "Pop"
