A 19 year veteran of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Trooper Donald K. "Kevin" Floyd was killed in the line of duty, Thursday, September 22, 2005. Trooper Floyd, stopped an east bound vehicle for a traffic violation when he was struck by an east bound pickup as he turned to walk back to his patrol unit. The accident occured on U.S. Highway 60 in Texas County, approximately one mile east of Route MM at 12:21 p.m. He was airlifted by helicopter to St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, MO, where he died at 1:33 p.m.

Trooper Floyd was born in Houston, Missouri. He graduated from Licking High School in Licking, Missouri, in 1977. Trooper Floyd was appointed to the Patrol on August 1, 1986, and was assigned to Troop G, Zone 5, Shannon County. Trooper Floyd's most current assignment was Troop G, Zone 8, Texas County.

Trooper Floyd is survived by his wife, a son, 19, and a daughter, 16. He is the 27th member of the Patrol to make the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting the citizens of Missouri. Trooper Floyd is the fourth member of the Patrol to die in the line of duty in 2005.

Visitation was held Sunday, September 25, 2005 at the Fox Funeral Home, 128 S. Main St., in Licking, Missouri from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Services were held Monday September 26, 2005 at the Licking High School, located at 313 S. Main St. in Licking, at 11:00 a.m.
