Mstr. Sgt. John W. Hanshaw, USAF (Ret.), of Littlestown, entered into Heavenly slumber October 13.

He was the son of the late William Albert and Rose Fisher Hanshaw.

A 1942 graduate of Hummelstown High School, Mstr. Sgt. Hanshaw was a member of St. James United Church of Christ, Littlestown, where he also served as an Elder. He was also a member of the McSherrystown Home Association and the Hanover Republican Club.

Mstr. Sgt. Hanshaw served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was stationed in India, China, Japan, Korea and the South Pacific, Thailand and Vietnam. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters and the Air Force Commendation Medal. He also received a Commendation of Maintenance of Aircraft Instruction from Ohio State University. He was a retired master sergeant from the U.S. Air Force since 1967 after 21 years of service

He was employed with AMF of York and later retired from Harley Davidson in 1990 after 22 years of service where he was known as "Sarge" by his co-workers and friends.

He was the loving husband of Shirley M. Bunty Hanshaw for almost 56 years and surviving, in addition to her, are one daughter, Deborah C. Fink of Hanover; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Earl R. Hanshaw of Dillsburg, Richard R. Hanshaw of Mechanicsburg, James H. Hanshaw of Elizabethtown, and Gary Lee Hanshaw of Palmyra; and four sisters, Anna Louise Hoffman of Annville, Doris J. Roberts and Mildred M. Hanshaw of Hummelstown, and Shirley C. Smith of Schuylkill Haven.

He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Interment was with full military honors.
