Christian was born January 26th, 1831 in Budziszew, Briesen, Marienwerder, WestpreuBen, Prussian Germany (now Budziszewo, Wabrzezno, Kujawsko-Pomorske, Poland) to George Dobrinski and Helena Koepke. There is some evidence that Christ may have been married when very young, and lost that first wife and their three children to death. But further research needs done in that area.
He Married Katherine Labs in Germany sometime before 1859, the actual date is unknown. Christian and Katherine had 7 known children together, the first five being born in Germany....Emilie, Fred, Gustave, Charles, and Christian Jr.
Martha and August were later born in Marquette County, Wisconsin.
Christ and his wife Katherine and their five children left Breman Germany on a ship named the "Baltimore" in June of 1870 when he was 39yrs old. They were traveling with Christ's cousin Michael Dobrinski and his wife Amelia, who was on the same ship. The Ship arrived in Baltimore Maryland on July 2nd, 1870. Christ and Katherine went straight to Milwaukee Wisconsin, but his cousin Michael and his wife Amelia settled in Kansas. Christ and Katherine and their five children are found on the 1870 census living with his brother Michael and his wife Gottliebe in Milwaukee. Michael and Gottliebe had arrived in the US the year before.
Christ purchased a large plot of land near Westfield, Marquette County, Wisconsin (in Lawrance) in 1873, records show they paid $3,400.00 cash for 228 acres. This is where they lived for the next 18yrs before losing the property and moving back to Milwaukee. I am not sure how they utilized this property, it may have been run as a dairy farm?
Story has it that Christ and his wife Katherine was not accustomed to working hard manual labor while in Germany, as Christ was an overseer of a very large farm of some kind before coming to America and was financially comfortable, others done the hard work for them, and of course when they came to America it must have been a big change for them.....they had to do all the work themselves, or hire it out. This could be part of the reason why they eventually lost their property, I still need to find out what actually caused them to lose it. Katherine's mental state changed due to grieving over the loss of that property, and then declined even more after the death of their youngest son August which happened in 1898. It was not long after his death that she was sent to a mental hospital in Wauwatosa where she finally died in 1904. Christ died in 1901 before his wife, on his death certificate it states he died from exhaustion. They came to America relatively well off, but died penniless.
