Aunt Rita married my Uncle Lester, my Dad's twin brother, later in life, on September 1, 1989, in Riverside, California. She was the widow of Vernon Goudy. Being a letter writer, I immediately began to correspond with her and we became fast friends!

When they came to Wisconsin for a visit in the fall of 1990, we already knew everything there was to know about each other and our first meeting was like the meeting of old friends. I was able to spend time with her again on another of their visits to Wisconsin a few years later, all the while, exchanging many letters and weekly phone calls.

I do not like to fly, but in March of 2001 I felt the need to visit my aunt and uncle, so flew to California for a five day visit. I'm so glad I did that, because it was the last time I saw her.

What a joy it was to meet her daughter, Verita, who I am so close to, to this day, and her granddaughter, Christine, and grandson, Marvin Vernon, who are Verita's children.

NOTE: Our dear Verita (third photograph on this page) passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2008, after a brave battle with cancer. Rest in sweet, heavenly peace, Sis.

Aunt Rita was survived by her husband, my Uncle Lester, who died in 2011, one son, Thomas, a daughter, Verita, two granddaughters and a grandson, great-grandchildren, and my Uncle Lester's family.

Aunt Rita loved butterflies. She had them all over her house in pictures and decorations, even on her clothing! How I'll miss the cards and letters from her with envelopes covered with stickers. I'll miss our phone conversations, when anytime I had good news she would reply with a resounding, "Hot dog!" I will still have those conversations with her, only now, they will be in my mind.

I loved my Aunt Rita so much, and I still do. She makes her presence known to me now in "butterfly ways." She was a joyful person, with always a smile on her face, a hearty laugh, and heart of gold.

I miss you so much Aunt Rita!

"Everytime I see a butterfly, I will think of her."
