Helen Margaret Donnelly Dietz was born on February 14 (Valentine's Day), 1883 in Canastota, Madison County, New York, the first-born child of Thomas John Donnelly and Nora Heffernan Donnelly. She had six siblings. Helen married Sherman Eugene Dietz, Sr., and they were the parents of Sherman Eugene Dietz, Jr. and Dorothy Emma Dietz Reagan, who were twins, and Howard K. Dietz, all raised in Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York.
Helen became a widow in 1944 and died at age 85 on September 19, 1968 in Rexford, Saratoga County, New York and is buried near her husband and son in Assumption Cemetery in Syracuse.
