Douglas Woodson Grayson, known as "Duke", is an accomplished man of Lathrop, Missouri. Duke graduated from Lathrop High School in 1963. He served on active-duty US Marine Corps for 2 combat tours in Vietnam. Duke went on to work for the City of Lathrop for 16 years, serving in numerous positions including Mayor, and was honored as Citizen of the Year. Duke was a Mason and pillar of the community. His accomplishments were unprecedented at the time considering the demographics of Lathrop, which serve as a true testament to the leadership and faith the community instilled in Duke.

He passed away on 8 February 2015 at the age of 69. Mr. Grayson is a loving man whom Lathrop dearly misses. To honor his tradition and continue his legacy, the City of Lathrop, Mayor Gene Schoonover officially announced 12 February 2015 as Douglas "Duke" Grayson Day to honor his memory. May he Rest in Peace - Semper Fi.

Proclamation by Mayor Schoonover stated: Whereas the Supreme Ruler in His wisdom has seen fit to call home an esteemed long-time citizen, city employee, Mayor, and local friend of the Lathrop community, Douglas "Duke" Grayson. Therefore, I, Mayor Gene Schoonover, City of Lathrop, hereby proclaim with pride and gratitude, Thursday, February 12, 2015. A day set aside to pay tribute to his memory and to share with his family and friends their sorrow in their loss, which is a loss to all of us. Signed by Mayor Schoonover and Stamped with the City of Lathrop seal.
