Army Pfc Caleb Lufkin, 24, 0f Knoxville died Thursday in Walter Reed Army Medical Center from complications during surgery, according to Lufkin's father, Tammy Lufkin. He was injured May 4th, 2006 in Iraq by a roadside bomb. He was born the son of Tammy E. and Marcy D. Shenaut Lufkin. Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Marcy and Dennis Gorsline, Knoxville, Ill.; his father and stepmother, Tammy and Karen Lufin, Galesburg.his maternalgrandmother, Pat Houston, Galesburg, His paternal grandfather, Ted Lufkin, East Galesburg; (2) brothers, Lance Lufkin and Taylor Lufkin of Knoxvile, Ill. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Carol Lufkin, Maternal grandfather, Jerry Shenaut. He graduated from Knoxville High School in 2000. He served in the Army Company B , 5th Engineer Battalion from Fort Leonard Wood Mo.where he graduated basic Training and AIT receiving his Trail Blazer and Sharp Shooter Awards. He was then stationed in Bagdad Iraq. During his time in Iraq, he received th Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and Army Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Services Ribbon and Combat Action Badge. He was an avid banjo player, enjoyed fishing, hunting, and motorcycles. Lufkin's service in the Army took him far from Knoxville, Ill.He was a volunteer firefighter, who wanted to become a professional firefighter.
