Obituary: She was a former manager at the U. S. Department of Commerce and a former Charleston County community development director. She had also been employed for several years by Charleston County, where she helped administer grants aimed at helping the county's poorest residents with problems they couldn't otherwise afford to fix such as repairing roofs or septic tanks. She left that job in 2005. She graduated from Southern Wesleyan University. She was a minister and sang in the Mother Emanuel AME Church choir. Whether she was working with college students or Charleston's poorest residents, she just wanted to be in a position to help people. She was the mother of Gracyn, Kaylin, Hali and Czana Doctor and the beloved daughter of Rev. Leroy and Frances Middleton. She was a resident of Hollywood, SC.

Visitation was held on Friday, June 26, 2015 at St. Mark A.M.E. Church, 5672 Salters Hill Road, Ravenel, SC from 6 to 7 PM. A public viewing was held on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at The Palmetto Mortuary, 1122 Morrison Drive, Charleston, SC from 3 to 6 PM. The funeral was held on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Mother Emanuel A.M.E. Church, 110 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC at 1 PM with burial at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Road, Charleston, SC 29414. Palmetto Mortuary assisted the family.

NOTE: She was killed during the mass shooting at Bible Study session at Mother Emanuel AME Church, 110 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC. It happened during a prayer meeting being held at the church on Wednesday night, June 17, 2015 approximately 9 PM.
