My Granny was a sweet and loving lady who was well-loved by her family. She was married to my granddaddy, Drewery Tandy McMinn and they were deeply in love and married for 50+ years. She was the mother of four boys, R.P. "Peck," Kenneth, Ray, and Gregg.

She worked hard for her family and was a fantastic cook. Nobody could make chicken'n'dumplings like she could. After a feast at her table, she'd simply put a tablecloth over everything, because she knew people would be back to nibble. We couldn't stay away.

My fondest memory of her was when I had a book of riddles, and she got such a kick out of me reading them to her. She had to have some entertainment, because she thought TV was pretty evil and wouldn't have one in her house. Even the radio was only tuned to gospel stations. I wonder what she would say about what's considered "entertainment" today? She was a sweet Christian lady and is missed by her ten grandchildren.

When I was nine, she gave my sister a kitten, and seeing that I was quite jealous, tied a chicken's feet together and brought it into the house for me to play with. Not quite the same, but I guess it was a nice thought! When you're in the country with limited resources, you have to improvise sometimes!

Granny died on what would have been her mother's 104th birthday.
