Joel Preston Burch was born 1 Sep 1871, the second son of William BURCH and Susan STORM Burch. He was named after his grandfather Joel Burch and an uncle Preston Storm.

On the 5th of September 1897, Joel Preston married. His wife was Minna Gertrude HAM, the daughter of Jacob Greenberry HAM and Mary Eliza SHARPE. He was 26 years old at the time of the wedding. His wife was 20. Unfortunately the marriage was short. Minna died one year later on Sept 13 1898.
