"EARTH HAS NO SORROWS THAT HEAVEN CANNOT HEAL"

My sweet mother-in-law, Jerrill endured years of battling Alzheimer's disease, but a heart attack finally set her free. She's now in heaven with her parents, sister, brothers, and husband.

Jerrill Joyce Gammell, 85, of Frederick, MD passed from this life to eternity on Saturday, January 14, 2017. Born on August 1, 1931 in Mitchell SD, she was the daughter of John Jacob Sauser and Agnes Belle (Williams) Sauser. She attended Whitworth College in Spokane Washington where she met and married the love of her life Dean Gammell. She had many talents and worked as a secretary, day care provider, teacher, real estate agent, volunteer, relocation director and her most treasured occupation of loving mom and grandmother. She belonged to the United Methodist Church in Fairfax, VA and Buckeystown, MD.

She loved music and dance and was always humming a happy tune and ready for a twirl. She was happiest surrounded by children and had an amazing imagination, never afraid to express her inner child. She loved the poem: Warning, When I am an Old Woman, I shall wear purple, and lived accordingly. Her joys were the beach, browsing thrift stores, and her faithful dog Walter.

She is survived by her five children and their spouses: Jeff and Sharon Gammell of San Antonio, TX, Lynn Gammell of Hagerstown, MD, Mark Gammell of Dickerson, MD, Ted and Karen Gammell of Mt. Airy, MD, and April Schriefer of Owings Mills, MD. She is survived also by her 12 precious grandchildren: Michael, Jennifer, Willie, Brittany, David, Kevin, Timothy, Peter, Willis, Hannah, Christopher and Sarah.

She was predeceased by her husband Robert Dean Gammell (LTC USAF-Ret). Memorial Services were held at Mountain View Church (8330 Fingerboard Rd, Frederick, MD on February 4, 2017 at 1 PM. Memorial donations may be made in Jerrill’s name to the Alzeimers Association. Burial occurred at Arlington National Cemetery on July 9, 2017.

WRITTEN BY HER DAUGHTER, LYNN:

Jerrill sang and danced "Chaquita Banana" with the perfection, personality and nuance of a musical star like Carmen Miranda, yet she scarcely took dance or music lessons; she was a natural.. . . Dandelions would find their way into a Jerrill time capsule as well as a stuffed animal. Salvaged from Jerrill's stuffed animals is Opus the Penguin a safari-clad penguin, holding a white furry dandelion with a printed safari hat that reads, "The Dandelion Preservation & Appreciation Society." She loved gardening in her yard and never met a dandelion she didn't try to remove; her obsession with eliminating them extended to her love of her neighbor's yards as well. Jerrill joked that her tombstone should read "Laundress." Not only was she a perfectionist laundering her family's clothing, but that of the many thrift stores she volunteered at most of her adult life.. . . .Let Jerrill's tombstone read: "Dear Lady Laundress Beloved by the young at Heart, We Did our Best to Preserve and Appreciate You, Please Remember Us to the Father in Heaven Until We Meet Again."
