Charley Campbell was born to Thomas W. and Sarah (Woods) Campbell. He had a twin sister Lieu Anne. He lived in the Christian County, Missouri area all of his life and was a farmer. He married Lydia McCarty and they had a large family. Of their children 6 would grow to be adults. He was a strong and healthy man until he had a stroke and was bedfast for a few months before death. Charley was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter Velma and one son Laymond. He was survived by his wife of 61 years and 5 children - three sons, Carl and wife Wilda, Roy "T" and wife Dorothia, Blond and wife Helen, two daughters Zella Loveland and husband Frank, Charlene Cave and husband Roscoe, one daughter-in-law Flossie Campbell. He was a wonderful "Poppy" to eleven grandchildren - Raymond Keller, Charles Allen, Rosie, Velva Ann, Flossie, Peggie, Earl, Mary and Terry Campbell and Verba and Ginny Cave.
Throughout my life, because my dad had died so young, I was close to my Poppy Campbell. I loved this man with all that was in me. Randy Travis sings a song about an old grandpa that wore an old hat that looked like a halo and "I thought he walked on water." I can certainly relate to the song.
