"Granny" learned to read by reading the Bible. Her father in law, Charles Ross, taught her.

Clemmie's mother died when she was very young. Her father remarried but her step mother was very ill for many years. Clemmie learned before she was even able to reach the counter tops how to climb up on an overturned wash tub to do the cooking. She taught herself how to cook. Her sons Roy and Elvin loved to eat her cornbread and chow chow.

Clemmie loved God and loved church. She kept her own hymn book and her own scripture book. These she lovingly gave to her great granddaughters so that they could always have them to enjoy.

Clemmie married her first love late in life. She knew "Buster" Denny when they were both young. Her father did not want her to marry Buster so she followed the wishes of her father while Buster was temporarily away and married Floyd Ellis Ross. In her 80's (long after she was divorced from Floyd Ellis Ross) she accidentally met Buster Denny again. It was not long before the two eloped and secretly were married. The two lived in happiness and love together through the rest of their lives.

"In Memory" cards handed out at her funeral:
