Tim, as he was called, was the son of Harley Lapierre and Eva Ellen (Calkins) Steinhauser.

He served in the United States Air Force from June 6, 1968 to June 2, 1972. He went to Tech School at Lowry Air Force Base, CO, and saw service in the Republic of Vietnam in 1969-1970, stationed at Phu Cat Air Base.

He married Patricia L. Garrett, February 22, 1970, in San Diego, California. They divorced in December, 1976.

I met Tim, through a mutual friend, in Denver during the winter of 1967, when he was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base. We formed a close and trusted friendship, only to be separated when he shipped out to Vietnam. I joined the US Army in the hopes of seeing my buddy in Vietnam, but it never happened.

In 1971, I was stationed in Mannheim, Germany and found out that he was stationed at Sembach Air Force Base, two hours away. We reunited and relived some old times together.

He was a blast to be with and his fluency in German made our adventures all the more fun. I remember that he had made a pair of calf-height, black leather boots, not unlike those worn by Wehrmacht officers during WWII. He wore them in Mannheim one sunny day, and some older men walking past made unkind remarks about them in German. Obviously thinking the two Yanks didn't understand, Tim replied in flawless German, that perhaps they would like to know where he had them made. Their mouths dropped.

Time ran out and we both went our own ways. I lost contact with him and only reunited when I sadly found his obituary on-line.

The following is from Paul Garrett.

"I'm Tim's ex-brother-in-law, Paul D Garrett. He went by Tim in San Diego. He showed up at St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, wanting to convert before shipping out to Vietnam. As I was about the only young person who spoke both English and Russian, I was assigned as his godfather. He shipped out and my sister Patti (Patricia) took to writing him and sending cookies, etc. He proposed by mail on his way home and they were married 22 Feb 1970. They went together to Germany...I thought you might appreciate this little bit of background. Tim was an authentically nice guy".

Thank you Paul. This helped to give me spiritual closure after learning of Tim's passing.
