Marie Jeanne Iribarren

Marie did so much for our community, she loved people and everyone loved her. When my step-dad had passed away, Marie had sent my Mother a letter. My mother never told us about the letter, but as we went through my Mom's personal belongings when she passed we found Marie's letter. Her selfless random act of kindness touched our hearts.
Thank you Marie for your sweet kind heart and acts of kindness. We will never forget you.

Marie Jeanne was born to Pascal and Grace Irouleguy-Eyherabide in Bakersfield, CA. In 1920, Marie, her parents and three younger brothers moved to Bakersfield from the Maricopa area. She graduated from Williams School and Kern Union High School in 1930 now known as Bakersfield High School. After attending Bakersfield College, she worked for Belluomini Bros. She married Thomas Iribarren, a sheepman on June 19, 1936. They honeymooned in Europe for a year, then returned to the sheep business in the Lost Hills area. In 1947, the Iribarren family moved to Wasco. Marie began working for the Wasco Union School District as a secretary. With teaching in the back of her mind, she graduated from Bakersfield College and Fresno State in 1961. She then taught 2nd and 3rd grades for 18 years. She has been very active in St. Johns School and Church, St. Johns Womens Society, honorary member of Kern County Basque Club and Los Banos Basque Club and Delta Kappa Gamma.
