ALONZO GOING
Pocahontas Star Herald Newspaper

Alonzo Going, age 26 years, died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Asroe Going, in Pocahontas last Saturday night, after a lingering illness of typhoid fever. His condition had been quite serious for some time, and although he had the very best of medical attention and nursing, the disease could not be overcome.

He leaves a wife, Pearl Cathern Holt Going; and four small children- Duel Glen Going, Charles Asro Going, Alonzo Seburn Going and Pearl Imogene Going; besides other relatives and many friends.

The remains were laid to rest Sunday afternoon, September 1, 1918, in the Masonic cemetery, services being conducted by Rev. J A Allison of the Baptist church.

A large crowd attended the funeral.

ALONZO STUBBLEFIELD GOING was the 1st born son of Charles Asro Going and Sarah Ann "Sally" Looney Going.

He was born 26 Dec 1892 in Dalton, Randolph County, Arkansas, and died 01 Sep 1918 in Pocahontas, Randolph County, Arkansas of Typhoid Fever (Age: 25 years, 8 months, 6 days). He actually died at 3:30am on Sunday morning, not Saturday night as said in his obituary. Therefore, he was buried on the same day he died in the afternoon of September 1, 1918.

Alonzo married Pearl Cathern Holt-Going Phillips on 14 Jan 1912 in the home of her parents, Myrtle, Oregon County, Missouri.

At the age of 24, Alonzo registered for the World War I draft on June 5, 1917 in Pocahontas, Randolph County, Arkansas. His registration describes him with brown eyes, dark hair, medium height and medium build.

My Grandfather Alonzo was a self employed farmer near Manson, Randolph County, Arkansas.

He and Pearl had 4 children, the last 2 being twins and born only 1 month, 26 days before his death.
