EVERT LOVELACE
The funeral for Evert Lovelace, 96, was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Waters Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Hoehn officiated and burial was in Central Union Cemetery.
Music was provided by Sharon Hoehn, pianist, and Gene South, soloist. Mr. South's selections included "How Great Thou Art" and "Ivory Palaces."
Serving as pallbearers were grandsons, Keith and Kelly Leadley, Daryl and Kevin Lovelace, Shannon Lovelace and Stanley S. Lovelace. Names as honorary pallbearers were Johnny Kohl, Jim Blackwell, William Evans and David Frech.
Mr. Lovelace died at 2:50 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, 1990, at Audrain Medical Center, Mexico, after a short illness.
He was born Nov, 18, 1893, near New Hartford in Pike County to Henry and Mattie Mudd Lovelace. He was married to Wilma Floy Trower on Jan. 30, 1916, and they would have celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary this week. The couple lived in the Gazette area and later resided on a farm near Boyd School southeast of Vandalia for 25 years. In March 1941, Mr. Lovelace and his family moved to Ontario, Ore. Later they returned and purchased a farm near Gazette. In 1968, Mr. and Mrs. Lovelace retired and moved to their current home in Vandalia.
He was a retired farmer, livestock dealer and horse trader and was an avid fox hunter.
He is survived by his wife of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Wanda) Hanson, Curryville, and Mrs. Franklin (Shirley) Leadley, Vandalia; two sons, Sherwood Lovelace, Laddonia, and Paul Lovelace, St. Louis; 13 grandchildren, several great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, three brothers, and one son, Lindell Eugene Lovelace.
