Clara was the daughter of John J Hardy and Lydia Ensign Valencia. Clara married Frederick James Hatt in 1890 and had 5 children before her illness that took her young life. Frederick soon remarried Adalaide Knight and had several more children. Clara's older sons were raised between Fred's home and his sister Sarah Hatt Jacobs.

Clara is well loved and remembered, even a century later.
