Son of Isaac Jerome Long and Florence Racksy Featherston; husband of Kathryn DL Small Long; father of Christopher Lee Long; grandfather of Kirsten Cheyenne "KC" Long (who was born in July of 1995). Brother of J.T. Long, Billie Long and Bonnie Long Pendergrass.

Ray was a carpenter by trade, a career in which his only son Chris followed in his footsteps. Ray served in World War II in the Marines. After WWII was over, he joined the Air Force. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater, second Marine division in WWII and stationed in Europe in the Air Force as a Flight Mechanic during the years of 1950-52.

Ray married the love of his life, Kathryn DL "Dick" Small on January 20 1946 in the state of Arkansas. During their married life they lived not only in Arkansas, but in Yuba City, California as well as Chicago, Illinois and Galviston Texas. They retired in Glenwood, Arkansas in the early 80's along with their rambunctious teenager, Chris.

Ray died 13 years before his wife, on July 12 1994; she would join him and their Lord on July 14 2007.
