Her obituary, from the Fort Lupton Press,(Ft. Lupton, CO) May 14, 1936, reads:
"Sarah M. Shaw Owens, daughter of Adam and Myra Shaw, was born in Port Huron, Ontario, Canada, August 20, 1867, and passed away in Denver, Colorado, May 6, 1936, aged 68 years, 8 months and 16 days.
At the age of thirteen she, with her parents, moved to Saguache, Colo., and one year later they went to Irwin, Colorado, in Gunnison County, at that time a booming mining town, but now entirely deserted.
On December 5, 1888, she was united in marriage to Thomas Owens of Irwin, and to this union were born thirteen children, nine of whom are still living.
In 1895 the family moved to Littleton, Colorado, where they resided 17 years, locating on a farm near Fort Lupton in 1912, at which place Mr. Owens passed away October 27, 1915. Seven years ago Mrs. Owens moved to Denver where she resided until her death.
Mrs. Owens was a devoted wife, a good mother, a kind friend, and a true Christian, being a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church in Denver. Although she was very deaf and could not attend services she never forgot her church and through her last illness of nearly three years was a most patient sufferer.
Left to mourn her loss are four daughters and five sons, namely Mrs. Bessie Walker of Fort Lupton, Mrs. Beulah Omstead of Bethany, Oklahoma, Mrs. Esther Newlin of Coffee Creek, Montana, Mrs. Edna Murphy of Greeley, Colo., Victor Owens of Ione and Earl, Arthur, Walter and Thomas of Denver, making her home with the latter; one sister, Mrs. Ella Hinkley of Denver; a brother, Charles Shaw of Salt Lake City; thirty six grandchildren; a host of friends and many other relatives.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, May 9, at 1:30 at Pilgrim Congregational church with the Quinn-Smith Mortuary in charge. G. B. Kelley, Thomas Eldridge, Tracy Forward, Clarence Howell and Moses Davis of Ione and H. C. Finton of Denver, were pall bearers. Interment was in the family plot in Littleton cemetery.
