Jean was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the adored only child of John and Edna Hartman. Jean was confirmed at St Paul's Methodist Church and was a Rainbow girl.
In 1948, Jean married Richard Lewis while they were students at Coe College in Cedar Rapids. They shared their happiness with 2 other couples while living in post war college rooms which had a common kitchen.
Jean and Dick had 3 children, Peter, Chris and Sue and she therefore was not able to finish college. Jean enjoyed and loved her husband and children and provided a lovely home.
Jean was taken too soon by a reaction to an antibiotic which was not uncommon in the early 60's. She died at only age 31 and left a grieving family.
