SARAH NEVER MARRIED.

HERE IN THIS CEMETERY.

Sampson's family was from England.
They moved to South Carolina
where Sampson was born.

Sampson Married Eleres Ebbies and
they moved to Cumming,
Forsyth County, GA.
and purhcased 1750 acres.

Sampson always had money.
He owned three businesses,
a Chair Factory, A Sawmill,
A Grist Mill and made Wiskey.
He always had choice horses and cattle.

Sampson built a basement in the ground
under his house and stocked it with
food and water and essentials.
When the Yankees came through Georgia,
during the Civil War, they took his
horses and cattle and the food
in the house, but did not find
the stocked basement.
Sampson and his family
lived on their reserves until
they could replensih their losses.

After Eleres death, Sampson remarried
to a Lady named Nancy Jane (Bagwell).

Sampson and Nancy Jane had 5 children.
Sampson died 17 days before their youngest
child Sarah was born.

When Sarah was a young child there
was an accident on the homeplace.
Sarah had followed her mother to the
field area and fell from a bridge
and was found unconscious.
She had a brain Concussion and her
Mother, Nancy Jane (Bagwell) Clayton,
hooked up the horses and buggy and drove
into Atlanta, GA, to seek the first
Atlanta Surgeon, Dr. Westmoreland.

The Atlanta Medical Center at that time
was beginning to be established,
mostly through the efforts of
the Westmorelands, Doctors,
John G. and Willis F. Westmoreland.
The Medical center at that time was,
located on the corner of Bulter
and Jenkins Streets in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Westmoreland came to the
Clayton homeplace and melted
down Siver Dollars and inserted
them in Sarah's head. He performed
this operation on their kitchen table.
Dr. Westmoreland stayed with the family
for three days.

Dr. Westmoreland was paid $100 a day.
Sarah lived, but was never the same,
she never married.

When Sampson died, it was in his will,
probated in October 1868, that all
surviving children receive 600 acres, the
rest was left to Nancy Jane (Bagwell) Clayton.

I know my Great Grandfather
Levi Ranson Clayton enlisted
in the Cherokee Legion State Guards
out of Cherokee County, Canton Georgia
on 7-22-1865. Made 5th Sgt. 11-9-1863
and was detailed from the Civil War
in 1-1-1864, to run his Grist Mill
for the Soldiers.

Levi's unit of 15 men surrended
at Bentonville, Tn. on 4-26-1865.

1870 Census records show Levi Ranson
and his wife Nancy Ann (Henson)
living on the same road and next door
to Nancy Jane (Bagwell Clayton).

The 1880 census shows Nancy Ann
(Henson) Clayton living in
Pickens County with her children
and Levi isn't listed as living
in the household. Nancy is
listed as widowed.

Something happened to Levi Ranson
in the time period within that
10 year time frame, but what?

And then both Levi and Nancy
seem to drop off the face of
the earth? I can't find anything
else on them at all after 1880?
No death or burial records for either?
I don't know what happened to the 600 Acres
his father left him in his will?

This is very, very strange
and sure has me puzzled!

has any information on Levi Ranson
and/or Nancy Ann (Henson) Clayton.
