COMD. SGT. MAJ. LALES V.C. (LES) WALLER, 77, passed away at his home in Colorado Springs on November 4, 1997 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease and cancer.

CSM Waller was born on May 10, 1920 in Mount Vernon (Posey), Indiana to Ulysses Simpson Waller and Savannah Georgia (Pippin) Waller. Lales was one of six children, Frederick Douglas Waller, Alda Evelyn (Waller) Woolridge, Marie F. (Waller) Dimmitt, Ulysses Garland Waller "Sparky", and Alois Reginald Waller. CSM Waller had a distinguished military career, serving active duty in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1974. He was a veteran of both World War II (Normandy), and the Korean War.

CSM Waller was married to Ella Lavon Howard of Princeton, Indiana in 1946. They are survived by three daughters; Robin Waller and Anita Waller of Colorado Springs, and Cecelia Ali of Eglin AFB, and two grandchildren; Alexandria and Omar Ali.

He is preceded in death by his parents Savannah in 1936 and Ulysses in 1974. Three siblings, Everett in 1980, Alda in 1985, and Alois in 1989.

CSM Waller is survived by his wife Gudrun E. Ihme of Germany, whom he married in May 1977, and her son Johchim Blossfeld and his family.

CSM Waller will be remembered as a soldier's soldier; a man who enjoyed meeting and helping other people. The Lord called him home on November 4, 1997. He was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Uncle. Lales was laid to eternal rest in Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is so loved and missed.

Funeral Arrangements are being coordinated by Swan Law Funeral Home, 501 N. Cascade, 471-9900. A graveside service is planned for 3:00pm on Wednesday, November 12 at Evergreen Cemetery located at 1005 S. Hancock.
