Bridget Monahan Cox was the daughter of William Monaghan and Ellen McCue of Ireland. The family moved to Stirling, Scotland where Bridget was born. They later came to the United States. Bridget married William Joshua Cox on 06 Feb 1872 in Danville, Vermilion County, Illinois. They settled in Gonzales, Texas where they raised their family.
Their children include George, William, Thomas, Julia, Maggie, Mary, and Sebina. Thomas was killed in a hunting accident on October 8, 1898.
