Johnie Allene Berry Cox is our beloved Mother and Granny. She was the daughter of James Berry and Johnie Downer Berry. She was married for 68 years to James Melvin Cox, who preceded her in death. Johnie was part of that "Greatest Generation" and contributed to the war effort in the 40s as a Lockheed Aircraft "Rosie the Riveter". Johnie and Mel lived in San Juan in the Rio Grande Valley for 50 years, where she retired as an employee of Southwestern Bell. They moved to San Angelo in 1991. Johnie worked as a Baptist Memorials Hospital volunteer for many years. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she loved being a part of the Melody Makers.
Granny is loved and missed very much. I still want to pick up the phone and call her before I realize she's gone.
