Dorothy Jean Stickney was born at home at 3228 15th Street in Moline Illinois on July 24, 1914. Her parents were John Henry Stickney, born in 1885 and died in 1958 and Isabelle Jennie Heaney, born in 1887 and died in 1973. She also had a sister named Isabelle Louise and a brother named John (nicknamed Jack). She graduated from Detroit Northern High School in Detroit, Mi. in 1933.

Dorothy married James Ackerman Fitzgerald on October 3, 1936 at St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Detroit, Michigan. They had 3 children, Michael James, Michele Jean, and John Patrick.

Grandma Dorothy was the epitome of a true lady. When I was little I remember wanting a compact with powder in it to put in my purse just because Grandma always had one. For my sister and I, she wasn't the typical grandma you saw all the time. She was closer to our cousin, who was Dorothy's daughter's daughter. I regret not being closer to her. As I grew to be an adult I would drive over to her apartment in Troy to visit, but not nearly enough. I will never forget you, Grandma Dorothy!
