Genevieve "Jenny" (Worwa) Winslow, 81, was born on April 14, 1923 in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota to Joseph and Kunegunda Piontek Worwa. Jenny's parents had both immigrated to the U.S. from Poland and were married in Minneapolis.

Jenny lived in northeast Minneapolis with her parents and siblings until her marriage to Donald Raymond Winslow. Jenny and Don met on a city bus in Minneapolis one day when he was riding it in uniform as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II and Jenny offered to buy him a pork tenderloin sandwich! After marriage, they moved to Don's hometown of Zumbrota, Goodhue County, Minnesota...where they would spend the rest of their married lives. They had 3 children.

Jenny worked various jobs after their children were old enough to go to school. She worked for Cresthaven Dairy making beautiful and delicious ice cream cakes, decorating holiday ice cream rolls and other treats. She later, also worked for D.H.I.A. (Dairy Herd Improvement Assn.) where milk testing was done.

Jenny loved to wake her children in the morning singing beautiful songs to them and she was one of the world's best cooks! Don and Jenny kept a large vegetable garden in their yard and also grew many flowers including annuals, perennials and rose bushes. They also enjoyed growing rhubarb, asparagus and raspberries. Jenny always rolled out a carpet of flowers on one end of the garden and planted a bright colorful row of gladiolus in the center to mix in some color among the vegetables!

Jenny also greatly enjoyed joining her husband in a round of golf and bowled on many bowling leagues. She loved long walks around Zumbrota's beautiful country lanes, an occasional visit to a casino to try her luck at the slot machines, reading, and vacation camping trips out west to the Grand Tetons of Wyoming, Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, and Glacier National Park in Montana. Her whole family loved the mountains!

Jenny loved animals, starting with Pudgy the dog when she was growing up in Minneapolis and continuing with many cats like Muffy and Bootie in Zumbrota and favorite dogs like Duke and Smoky and Buddy.

Jenny and husband Don were also big Vikings and Minnesota Twins fans, always cheering their teams on! They even attended a Twins World Series game with daughter Diane and her husband Jim one year sitting in the WCCO Radio/TV Box at the stadium and eating all the hot dogs and other goodies they could muster!

Jenny passed away at the Zumbrota Nursing Home in Zumbrota Minnesota on Sunday, February 6th, 2005 at 1 pm with her daughter Diane holding her hand. The last thing Diane said to her was, "We will never forget you, Mom." Jenny was survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, a daughter-in-law, 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, her husband, and son.

The Memorial Service for Jenny was at 1 pm on Wednesday,(Ash Wednesday) February 9, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Zumbrota with the Rev. Kitty Burbo officiating. Burial followed in Zumbrota Cemetery. A lunch followed that, at the church. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, Zumbrota Nursing Home or the Red Wing Hospice.

We love you and miss you so much mom and look forward to seeing you again some day! Thank you for everything. You were the best!

"Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again."

"But when tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand, that an angel came and called my name and took me by the hand."
