Laura Josephine Swanson was born on 2 October 1862 in Stockholm, Sweden, to farmer Henrich "Henry" Swanson and his wife, Christina Sofia Teberg. In 1876, she and her older brother immigrated to the United States with their grandparents. Laura was fourteen years old; her brother, Richard, was sixteen. They worked on their grandfather's farm in Blue Valley Township, Kansas, for two years until their parents arrived. Laura was working as a hotel chambermaid when she met Peter David "Pete" Bihn. They were married in Kansas City, Missouri, 18 February 1889, by Probate Judge George Monahan. Pete and Laura's only child was Eugene Erastus Bihn. The family lived in several towns around the United States where Pete managed hotels before finally making their home at Calder Avenue and Center Street in Beaumont, Texas. Pete was the manager of the Crosby House Hotel. The Bihns appeared on the US Census of 1910 at Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas, with three people in the family. After Pete died in 1919, Laura moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma, to live with her unmarried younger brothers, Ernest and Edward. Laura Swanson Bihn died in Muskogee, 9 March 1942, aged 79, and was buried with her husband in the Bihn family plot at Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont.
