My grandfather, Dillard Booker was a skilled finish carpenter who took great pride in his work. He and his wife, Geneva Bass had five children, Kathryn Courtney, Jimmie Booker, LeQueita Dicks, Carolyn Tillman (my mother) and John Booker. My grandparents lived and worked in Arkansas and Alabama, moving between the two states several times. Their last move was back to their beloved Fairhope, Alabama. Daddy Booker worked in the shipyards during WW11 and Turner Lumber in Crichton, Al during the 1940's. I remember Daddy Booker telling me how he hobo'ed around during the depression, sneaking onto the trains and riding the rails until he would find a job and send money back home to his family. I still have my mother's childhood bed that he made for her. I used it as a child as did my children and it will now go to my firstborn grandson. Daddy Booker became sick and died when he mixed up his medications.
