Cecil was an Army veteran of World War II serving under Dwight D. Eisenhower in Normandy,Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received a purple heart for action in the European Theatre. He received the Purple Heart Oct 15 1945, Normandy, France after being shot in the leg. He crawled into a barn with the enemy on top of him. He had to lay perfectly still or he would have been discovered. Cecil was discharged from the army on Oct 18 1945
