I find it very hard to find words to describe Margaret - for none that I can think of would do her justice. Her smile alone would make you think that the sun shone through her.

She was the daughter of my cousin as well as a very close and true friend when we were older.

She attended School until Grade 8, then went to work at Dandy Bacon Factory, until she was old enough to go West and become a Jillaroo. Finally she could realise her dream of having a horse. Unfortunately, she had an accident with one, and was never able to continue this phase of her life.

She loved country and western music, and use to accompany my boy-friend (who is now my husband) and myself on various outings, especially the Speedway. My husband loved her as a friend and as a sister he never had.

She returned home and again began working at Dandy. Her love of the country prompted her to purchase 10 acres of land at Mount Tamborine in South East Queensland, where she built a home and made improvements to the land as money allowed.

For many years she shared her home with a special male friend, who also shared her love of the country and especially the Australian outback, where they spent many happy holidays together. They also enjoyed feeding the many varieties of wild birds, including ducks and other native animals who frequented the property.

At the end of June 1993, my husband and I visited Margie and her friend and told them we were going on a motoring holiday the following week. Three days into our holiday, we received an early morning call from our son, who told us that Margie had suffered a "turn" and was technically dead.

The previous night she had complained of not feeling "right" on and off, and about 8.30p.m. decided to go to bed as she had an very early start to get to work on time.

She stood up, turned to say goodnight, and fell to the floor. An aneureism in her brain had burst. She was kept on life support for about 3 days, until permission was given for her organs to be harvested.

I know that organ transplants have given life to many very sick people all over the world, but I do not agree that a person should be mechanically kept alive, until the continual hounding to donate organs wears a loved one down until they give permission for the organ harvesting.

Her special friend still lives on the property, where her ashes were scattered.

A plaque in her memory has been placed at her favourite spot on the property.

A truly great woman has touched my life,
Easing the burden of trouble and strife.
Picking me up when I would fall,
Sharing the moments when I felt tall.
She had love to give and love to share,
Not a day went by that she did not care.
She was outwardly happy, loving and gay,
These are the memories I must keep each day.
An indelible mark she has left behind,
I will remember her as "One of a kind."
Far from my mind she'll not depart,
I will talk to her often with my heart.

People are unreasonable, illogical and self-centred
Love them anyway.
If you do good, people may accuse you of selfish motives,
Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you may win false friends and true enemies,
Succeed anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow,
Do good anyway.
Honesty and transparency make you vulnerable,
Be honest and transparent anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight,
Build anyway.
People who really want to help may attack you if you help them,
Help them anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you may get hurt,
Give the world your best anyway.
The world is full of conflict,
Choose peace of mind anyway.
