Lloyd Slape was born on February 12, 1925, in Placentia, California. On July 17, 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed as a cook at the Empire Station, Rogue River Base, at Wedderburn on the southern coast of Oregon. He was discharged from the Coast Guard on May 4, 1946. He died on October 4, 1987, and is buried at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
