Rusty was a wonderful man.

He operated a service station on the corner of 7th St. and St. Louis St. just east of downtown Joplin Mo. - on the famed 'Route 66.'
There, he made friends with all the neighbors and their children as well as:
* helped travelers repair tires,
* wash their windshield,
* change the oil,
* put in new batteries,
* and fill 'er up!
Rusty was also a favorite with the small folks who would scurry into his business for candy and
soda pop.

Rusty was especially fond of his nephew, Charles Moore.
(He is buried in the same cemetery.)

When Charles died, Rusty told of having written notes to Charles about riding his 'Stationary Bike.' He joked he was going to 'ride' to New York City to visit him.
Sadly, he confided to checking the bike's mileage and discovered he had only (figuratively) gotten to St.Louis when his nephew passed away...

Rusty Hurn just simply looked like the kind of man everyone wanted to 'HUG'...and most did.
He was so open and smiling and helpful and the essence of a fine, good man.

*** MEMORIAL VERSE ***

"He was GENTLE enough to be STRONG and,
STRONG enough to be GENTLE."
