Baxter the Therapy Dog, a San Diego area Chow/Lab mix who spent years providing care and comfort to humans at the end of life died friday October 23, at the age of 19 yrs old.
After a puppyhood of abuse, Baxter grew up to become a certified therapy dog with Therapy Dogs International, and enjoyed fame and fans world wide for his years of volunteer work at San Diego Hospice.
He gave so much comfort to so many that he was the subject of an award winning book, " Moment with Baxter:Comfort and Love From the World's Best Therapy Dog."
Many of those that knew Baxter believe that it was his own ailments that made him such a powerful companion and friend to hospice patients. The arthritis that pained him for so long during the latter part of his life, left him unable to walk. His owner, Milissa Joseph, helped him to continue his love and dedication by carrying Baxter around in a cart to hospice centers to the patients beds. Baxter was loving, caring, and loved what he did, all through his life, he shall be remembered and missed always for his love of mankind.
