Theodore David Thorson, 87, Wing, died Jan. 8, 2010, at a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Wing, with the Rev. Jo Pfennig officiating. Burial will be held in the spring in Union Cemetery, Wing.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Theodore David Thorson was born Feb. 15, 1922, southwest of Wing, on the family farm, to Theodore N. and Ida (Lyman) Thorson. Ted was raised and attended school in the Wing area. He was a member of the CCC and helped neighbors during his high school years. Ted entered the U.S. Army and served in World War II in the European Theatre — he was honorably discharged in 1945. After the war, Ted returned to Wing to farm with his brother Elmer on the family farm. He worked in a Wilton coal mine in the winter of 1946 to 1947.

Ted married Irene Franklund on Nov. 1, 1947, at Sunne Lutheran Church in Wilton. After their marriage, Ted and Irene remained on the farm and raised their family.

Ted enjoyed square dancing, playing guitar, bowling, watching baseball games and stockcar races. Ted loved to watch his crops grow and thoroughly enjoyed anything that had to do with his grandkids. In his spare time, Ted worked with wood building furniture and toys. He was an active member of the community and served on several boards.

He is survived by his wife, Irene, Wing; three daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly (Allen) Vollmer, Wing, Darlene (Roger) Holznagel, Mitchell, S.D., and Charlette (Gordon) Moe, Hawley, Minn.; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry (Dawn), Wing; nine grandchildren, Tami (Tony) Heins, Troy (Sara) Vollmer, Jennifer (Rick) Nitschke, Nicole Biberdorf, David (Lauren) Thorson, Stephanie Holznagel, Christopher Holznagel and Gavin and Garner Moe; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Franklund and Frances Schacher, both of Wilton; and two special nephews, Calvin and Steven Thorson, among other nieces and nephews.

Ted was preceded in death by his daughter, EllaRae; his parents; one brother, Elmer; one sister-in-law, Shirley; and two brothers-in-law, Laurence Franklund and Richard Schacher.
