Avera, known to family and friends as Bill, was born in Dallas, TX to Millard Filmore Beam and Georgia Bettye Avera. The family moved to Houston while Bill was in high school. After graduating from San Jacinto High School Bill attended the University of Texas in Austin, TX for one year; but, then moved back to Houston to be near his parents as his father was quite ill. Bill went to work at the Rice Hotel while attending classes at the University of Houston. Bill met and later married Margaret Mary Johnson. They were married for 37 years and raised three daughters, Phyllis Margaret, Lesley Joan and Cynthia Elizabeth. Bill joined the United States Army Air Corp in 1942 becoming an instructor in personal survival during WWII. After leaving the militery Bill went to work for Humble Oil Company. Later he became a Real Estate Broker and opened his own office. Bill loved his family and especially his grandchildren. He especially loved to have the family all gather at the lake house in Conroe, TX. Bill died of Lung Cancer at the age of 60.
