He was a son of Edward & Agnes Hall McCualsky of Campbeltown, Argyll, Scotland. He emigrated to the USA in 1880 and married Sarah Ann Oliver in 1887 at Belpre, OH. He resided in Ravenswood WV, Newark and Belpre OH. He also spent a short time in Kansas before marriage. He worked for the B & O Railroad and also was a carpenter doing fine wood inlay.
