Vera was the daughter of Charles Campbell and Mary Surdam, and married Fred Grundman on July 30, 1907. She ran a household of five children, husband, and countless hired hands without a complaint. She was a farmer, devoted church-goer and organist, and was very well known and loved in the community. During prohibition, she supplemented the family's meager farm income by making and selling bathtub gin. She was the loving mother of Marion Florence, Charles Francis, Katherine Theresa, James William, and Raymond Frederick.
