My paternal grandmother Ida Mathilde Antonie "Tonie" Luley Dalgleish was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany to Johann Jakob Luley & Christiana Amalia Paulina Mathilde Grieger. This family immigrated to the USA in 1900. They settled in St. Louis first. By 1903, her father had deserted the family, never to be heard of again. Her mother remarried to Mr. Meins who moved his new family to Minneapolis, MN, then finally to San Pedro, CA. Grandma had two brothers, Gustave & Walter (half-brother). Gus changed his surname to Meins, and became a Hollywood director, the Our Gang Comedy movies, and several Laural & Hardy movies to his credits.

Grandma met her future husband Arthur in 1915 while they were both attending school at the old San Fernando Valley Academy. They married in San Bernardino, CA. in 1917. To this union were born 5 children: Verna, Arthur E., Jean, Milton, & Marilyn. Arthur E. is my father.
